I wake up this morning to my usual alarm the Britney Spears hit single "Womanizer" (oh yes, I love Britney, but have no plans to bored you readers, if there is any, to tears with declaring this love on a regular basis) at 0615, ouch - particularly after the weekend I have had which was heavy!
I woke up planning to attend a training day for work which I had arranged to for on my day off as I gaze out of the window, bright eyed and not so raring to go I notice the huge amount of the white stuff coming down (no NOT that white stuff you dirty bastards) but the snow. I love the stuff, love it love it love it, it makes everything look beautiful and peaceful but somehow something so beautiful can be so disastrous, I guess much like the many women in TV shows & films who are all dolled up and look stunning but are actually evil bitches ready to kill at any given moment - but that's another topic!
So I get myself all washed and cleaned, which let me tell you was desperately needed, ironed my clothes and had some brekkie and I flicked this machine on and checked out train times for my journey which isn't that long to discover something wasn't quite right, the train company's website wasn't working. I proceeded to the station which fortunately is across the road and that is when I discovered the true extent of this snowie business, it was so deep at a guess about 4/5 inches!!! I haven't seen snow like this in years - I was overwhelmed with excitement but also a tinge of fear of falling arse over tit down the stairs outside my flat and then buried somewhere under the mound of snow, alas that didn't happen and I am hear to tell the story.
Once at the station, the lady who worked there was unable to tell me when the next train would be and just simply said "maybe in 20 minutes, fingers crossed" LOL how could the staff not no where the train is on the tracks and if its actually moving!
I didn't go to training - it was cancelled, much like everything else in London, cancelled trains, cancelled buses, closed schools, many people not at work! How can London and the rest of the country get to the point of a stand still?
TFL announced that ALL London buses were suspended, all but one underground line was not working, 2 rail companies stopped services completely and stations were closing completely.
Do any of these people watch any weather forecasts to see that the snow was coming, although I didn't know it was coming but I don't run any form of transport so therefore I don't feel I am accountable for the fiasco of today's transporting issues.
Is it people are using this as a blinding excuse not to open schools, not to go to work or in my case not to run a training day? Maybe, but then maybe it's the domino effect in some cases.
There was one positive for Londoners, or anyone planning a trip to London, Boris (the Mayor) made today a no congestion charge day in London but then in the same breath "advised" people not to drive into London unless they absolutely have too.
What went wrong? Why can't the UK deal with a few inches of snow? Will it be the same tomorrow? I guess that one we'll just have to wait and see.
One thing is for sure it's fun for the children and us adults with the child in us (no NOT that like that!)
UPDATE:
Maybe I was too quick to condemn those in charge and maybe for a breif moment I was being a cynical barstard, given the current climate in almost everything thats happening particularly in this country but also the world, what a lovely unplanned day off people had!
